The Association of Golf Merchandisers is the brainchild of a group of golf shop merchandising professionals who sought to provide support and camaraderie for others in the field.
Originally an idea of Brett Moore, the mostly female group of experts, solidified their mission while attending a conference in Long Beach in 1988. The organization’s intent was to create a network to enhancethe professional experience of those in the industry, share their insights and wisdom, and provide support for one another.
The original Board of
Directors consisted of:
Lani Collins
Jodi Cook
Debbie Chow
Marianne Greb
Jackie Jacquemoud
Brett Moore
Initially christened the Professional Golf Buyers Association (PGBA), the organization selected the Association of Golf Merchandisers (AGM) to differentiate itself from the PGA. Additionally, to overcome the perception that it was a women-only organization, they added a few men to the Board, including Craig Williamson from Kapalua.
The Association devised its affiliate program to generate support from vendors since the pool of potential professional buyers was limited. The first vendor partner was Antigua followed by Imperial Headwear. As vendors and professional golf buyers became familiar with the mission of the AGM, membership, and support grew.
Today, the Association of Golf Merchandisers continues the mission of the pioneering members by representing those in the professional golf merchandise industry. Specifically, aiming to:
Enhance Relationships
Elevate Retail
Educate Always
Thanks to the pioneering efforts of the original group, the Association of Golf Merchandisers is now an international, professional organization of nearly 850 golf-related merchandisers and 175 vendor partners. Members include buyers, merchandisers, golf professionals, students, club managers, owners, sales representatives, and suppliers to the golf industry.
