Riomar Country Club in Vero Beach, Florida, seeks an experienced, high-energy, and detail-oriented Golf Shop Merchandiser to oversee retail operations for its member-owned golf club.
Founded in 1919, Riomar is one of the oldest clubs in the state of Florida, with approximately 300 members. The Club is highly seasonal, with most members in residence from October through May. Riomar features an 18-hole golf course (no tee times), a recently rebuilt clubhouse, and an active golf program that provides members with a first-class golf experience.
Vero Beach is home to some of the most pristine beaches, unspoiled parks, and championship golf courses in the state and is a popular winter retreat for northern residents. Membership is by invitation only through friends of friends. The character, quality, and generosity of the membership are second to none, and members are highly engaged and supportive of their club.
Riomar’s Golf Shop generates approximately $500,000 in annual sales, offering a curated selection of high-end apparel, equipment, and accessories. In addition to managing the retail operation, this role plays a vital part in the daily operations of the Golf Shop, serving as a key point of contact for members regarding golf-related inquiries, tournament sign-ups, and lesson bookings.
Key Responsibilities:
– Develop and execute general and seasonal merchandise plans, visual merchandising strategies, and open-to-buy plans within approved budget guidelines.
– Manage inventory flow from delivery to the sales floor, including unpacking shipments, receiving items into the ClubEssential POS system, pricing, tagging, and displaying merchandise.
– Oversee tournament prize ordering for all major golf events, coordinating with the Golf Professional Staff and Tournament Chairs to ensure timely and appropriate selections.
– Attend industry trade shows and conferences to stay current with trends, enhance the club’s retail offerings, and foster vendor relationships.
– Create and maintain a warm, welcoming, and service-oriented atmosphere in the golf shop, ensuring a positive experience for all members and guests.
– Deliver a consistently high level of customer service, anticipating member needs and providing expert recommendations on apparel, equipment, and accessories.
– Coordinate and manage special orders, ensuring timely placement, tracking, and follow-up for members.
– Assist with golf shop operations, including answering phones, responding to member inquiries, booking lessons, and providing general golf information.
– Maintain organized and visually compelling product displays, rotating stock seasonally and keeping the shop refreshed.
– Utilize the club’s POS system (ClubEssential) for sales transactions, inventory tracking, and member billing.
Qualifications & Skills:
– Minimum of three years of retail and customer service experience, preferably in a private club or golf setting.
– Strong golf knowledge, including an understanding of club operations, tournament formats, and lesson scheduling.
– Excellent customer service, communication, and phone etiquette.
– Proficiency with point-of-sale systems (Clubessential is a plus).
– Highly organized with strong multitasking skills.
– A positive, team-oriented attitude with a passion for providing exceptional member experiences.
This position reports directly to the Director of Golf and offers a competitive salary plus a sales based commission and annual bonus/gratuity. The benefits package includes paid time off (PTO), health insurance, 401(k) participation, and support for professional development. Estimated total compensation ranges from $65,000 to $70,000, commensurate with experience.
