Bringing Joy, One Headcover at a Time: The Story Behind Zalea’s Golf Co.

AGM Vendor Spotlight featuring Zalea's Golf Co. logo alongside a display of colorful patterned golf headcovers in a woven tote.

From a college dorm room and an Etsy shop to a growing brand embraced by female golfers, Zalea’s Golf Co. has built its reputation on creativity, craftsmanship, and a fresh perspective on golf accessories. Founded by Zoe Walker-Faure, the company combines hand-made quality with bold colors and playful designs that encourage female golfers to express their personalities on the course. In this Vendor Spotlight, Zoe shares the story behind the brand, the inspiration behind its signature style, how her family helps bring every design to life, and why creating products that make golfers smile remains at the heart of everything Zalea’s Golf Co. does.

AGM: How did Zalea’s Golf Co. come to be, and what first inspired you to start making headcovers?

Zalea’s Golf Co.: Zalea’s Golf Co. started in my college dorm room (formerly known as Zoe Elizabeth Headcovers). I was (and still am) obsessed with Kate Spade purses and I wanted something just as colorful and whimsical on my golf bag. BUT THERE WAS NOTHING!

I started out on Etsy (where I was doing a lot of custom work for people) and quickly realized that the majority of my customers were women. There wasn’t anything on the market at the time and women were coming to my Etsy page requesting colorful and unique items for their golf bags!

AGM: Where does the name “Zalea’s” come from, and what does that connection mean to you?

Zalea’s Golf Co.: The name Zalea’s is derived from the word Azaleas, the iconic Southern bloom. I went to school at the University of Georgia and had the opportunity of playing Augusta National while I was there. In the Springtime and the start of the iconic Masters tournament, our practice facility would be completely surrounded with hot pink Azaleas. It was always a sign that the days were getting longer and the weather was getting warmer. Two elements golfers love! When naming the headcover brand, I dropped the “A” and kept Zalea’s as a nod to my alma mater.

AGM: What has it been like building Zalea’s while also competing professionally?

Zalea’s Golf Co.: It has been such a great experience! Competing on the ANNIKA WAPT has been a challenge and a blessing all at the same time. The weeks consist of hundreds of miles driving on the interstate, sleeping in hotel rooms (or host housing), trying to figure out how to eat healthy when you only have a microwave, and lots of golf! Between practice rounds and competition rounds, I make it a goal to drop off at least 1-2 catalogs at the host course and surrounding courses. Much of my free time is communicating with our golf shop partners, drawing new designs, and managing our online store. I also must mention the friendships I have made playing professional golf. Many of the girls have been so supportive of Zalea’s and my mission to bring color to the fairways! I wouldn’t trade these friendships for anything.

AGM: Zalea’s is celebrated for a “mix-and-match” philosophy. What is your design process when curating these distinct color palettes and prints?

Zalea’s Golf Co.: We like to say “There are no rules when it comes to mixing and matching.” When I am designing new prints or picking out new colors, I aim to keep it within our existing color palette or add new colors that will complement the existing color palette. There is no “ugly” combo and it is so fun to see what customers pick out for themselves. With our multitude of colors and prints, it allows women to create a bag setup unique to them.

AGM: As a family-run business creating hand-crafted products, what goes into the materials and craftsmanship of each headcover?

Zalea’s Golf Co.: Not a lot of people know this… and maybe I should do a better job of advertising this, but ALL of the prints are digitally drawn by myself and all headcovers are hand-cut and hand-sewn by my mom and grandma. After a print is finalized, we order fabric to begin production. My mom cuts every single headcover and my grandma sews! We do have another lady that helps us sew… but the majority is done between the three of us. When we say “Made in the USA for women, by women”… we really mean it!

AGM: What is Misfit Mania, and how does sustainability factor into how you manage your production waste?

Zalea’s Golf Co.: Misfit Mania is our twice a year “sale.” Since we keep low inventory of all headcovers, we never have a traditional sale. After months of disposing of our scrap fabric, my mom noticed there was enough fabric to cut out woods and hybrids using the scrap fabric. She began tilting our patterns and squeezing every last inch out of the “scrap fabric” and we began sewing the fabric up as Misfit Headcovers. Our customers now count down the days until Misfit Mania and put reminders in their phones so they don’t miss out! It is their chance to get a discounted headcover and receive a print that is not normally sold in that size (and oftentimes one of a kind!).

AGM: What kinds of stories do you hear most from the women who use Zalea’s out on the course?

Zalea’s Golf Co.: A comment that we have heard more than once is: “These headcovers make me smile when I am on the course!”

Mission accomplished! That’s the whole point. Our goal is to bring color and joy to the fairways and give women an opportunity to express themselves in a fun way. If a lady says the covers made them smile during their golf round, I think we accomplished our goal.

AGM: What impact do you hope Zalea’s has on the next generation of female golfers and business owners?

Zalea’s Golf Co.: I hope Zalea’s inspires girls of all ages to pick up the game of golf for the first time! Most girls love the sense of community and at Zalea’s, we do our best to cultivate a unique space where women and girls feel included on the course. We want girls to feel confident and ready to compete! For us, this means providing quality golf gear that women can use to express their personalities on their golf bags.

AGM: As you continue to grow the brand, what opportunities do you see for green grass shops and resorts interested in partnering with Zalea’s?

Zalea’s Golf Co.: As we continue to grow Zalea’s, we’re excited about creating meaningful partnerships with green grass shops and resorts. Beyond carrying our core collections, we see opportunities for exclusive resort prints, custom logo headcovers on driver sizes, and tournament gifting! Because our products are made in small batches and designed specifically with women golfers in mind, we can offer our retail partners something unique that helps their shop stand out. We want every woman that passes by a Zalea’s headcover display, to say “Oh my gosh, these are so cute… how do I decide which one to get?”

AGM: What message would you like to leave with AGM members about Zalea’s Golf Co.?

Zalea’s Golf Co.: Ultimately, we want Zalea’s to be more than a vendor—we want to be a creative partner that helps clubs and resorts better serve and inspire women golfers. Our goal is to help shops create engaging displays, mix-and-match collections, and social media moments that connect with today’s female golfer. As women’s golf continues to grow, we believe there is a tremendous opportunity for resorts and golf shops to offer products that feel fresh, stylish, and different from what’s traditionally available in the market.

Conclusion

Through family craftsmanship, thoughtful design, and a genuine passion for growing the women’s game, Zalea’s Golf Co. continues to bring fresh energy to golf shops and fairways alike. At the heart of the brand is a commitment to celebrating individuality, helping more women feel welcomed and represented in golf, and bringing more color, joy, and personality to every round.
