The FIFA World Cup is almost here, and if you think it’s only for sports bars and jersey shops, think again. The 2026 World Cup runs June 11 through July 19, smack in the middle of peak golf season, right here in North America. There’s a real opportunity to bring some of that energy into your shop and make this summer one to remember for your customers and your community.

Why This World Cup Is Different

This isn’t just any World Cup. The 2026 tournament is the biggest in history, with 48 teams, 104 matches, and 16 stadiums spread across the United States, Canada, and Mexico. It’s the first time the event has been hosted on North American soil since 1994, and with games being played in cities like Los Angeles, Dallas, Miami, Seattle, and New York, there’s a real chance your customers have neighbors, friends, or family following a team closely.

The buzz is already enormous. More than five million tickets have been sold thus far, and every match airs on FOX or FS1, meaning the whole country will have easy access to view every kick.

Here are a few ways golf shops can tap into the excitement surrounding the tournament:

1. Set Up a Watch Party Space

This is the highest-impact thing you can do. Convert a corner of your shop, your fitting bay, your back patio, or your practice area into a watch party zone for key matches.

(P.S. The kickoff for team USA is June 12 against Paraguay)

How to make it work:

  • Mount a TV or projector where it’s visible to shoppers browsing nearby
  • Set up a few chairs and a high-top table with snacks and drinks
  • Print a simple match schedule and post it so customers know when to come in
  • Promote it on social media a few days before each big match

Watch parties give your members another reason to come in, spend time together, and deepen their connection to your club. An event like this turns a visit that might not have happened into a shared memory.

Pro tip: Focus on any matches involving countries with strong local communities in your area. Check the group stage schedule, as the U.S. plays in Los Angeles and Seattle, making West Coast shops especially well-positioned. And don’t underestimate the power of a simple question posted on your front door or at the register: “Who’s taking it all? Drop your pick in the jar.” Sports fans are natural debaters, so give them something to argue about and they’ll linger for a while.

2. Build a World Cup Display

Your storefront is prime real estate during this tournament. A themed display immediately signals to members and guests that your shop is plugged into the moment.

Display ideas:

  • Nations Theme: Group products by country colors such as red/white/blue for the USA, red/white/green for Mexico, yellow and green for Brazil, blue and white for Argentina, etc. You can set them up as dedicated display tables throughout the shop, anchored with mini country flags and grass turf. This gives your floor a festive, tournament feel without changing too much.
  • The Crossover Display: Place a soccer ball next to a golf ball with a headline like “Two Games. One Summer.” or “Same Precision. Different Sport.” Play up the skills both sports share: focus, footwork, practice, and precision.
  • Scoreboard Updates: Set up a small chalkboard or whiteboard that you update with World Cup match results each day. Customers will check it every time they come in.

Change the display at least once during the tournament, perhaps shifting from “group stage excitement” to “knockout round countdown” as the field narrows.

3. Run World Cup-Themed Promotions and Sales

Tie your pricing and promotions directly to tournament results for maximum fun and urgency!

Promotion ideas:

  • “USA Scores, You Save” – Every time your national team scores a goal in a match, offer a discount for that day. For example, one goal = 10% off, two goals = 15% off, a hat trick = 20% off. Put up signage and post it on your shop’s social media platforms before each match to drive urgency.
  • “Win or Go Home” Knockout Deals – Each time a major team (especially your nation’s team) advances to the next round, run a flash sale for 24–48 hours. If your team makes the Round of 16, celebrate with a storewide sale.
  • “Predict and Save” – Offer members a small discount on a specific category, like headwear or gloves, if they correctly predict the winner of that day’s match. Keep it simple: write the day’s matchup on the board in the morning, let members place their prediction at the register, and honor the discount for correct picks the rest of the day. It’s low friction, genuinely fun, and gives members a reason to engage with the shop even on days when they weren’t planning to buy anything.
  • “Tournament Bracket Giveaway” – Have customers fill out a World Cup bracket in-store and leave their contact info. The customer whose bracket is closest to correct at the end wins a gift card or a prize package. It creates a reason to check in throughout all six weeks of the tournament.
  • “Staff Predictions Board” – Post your staff’s World Cup picks on a chalkboard or whiteboard near the register and update it as the tournament progresses. Who had the early upset? Whose bracket is still alive in the semifinals? It is a great way for members and guests to bond with the staff.
  • “48 Teams, 48 Hours” – Run a 48-hour blowout sale tied to the 48-team field. A great opener for the week the tournament begins.

4. Stock World Cup-Adjacent Merchandise

You don’t need to carry soccer gear to profit from World Cup fever. Think lifestyle and crossover.

What to stock or highlight:

  • Flag headcovers and accessories – Flag-themed or country-colored headcovers, towels, and ball markers are easy impulse buys for golfers who are also soccer fans.
  • Patriotic gear – Pull your patriotic or national flag-colored inventory up to the front. For American sporting events, red, white, and blue apparel moves extremely well.
  • Custom logo balls – Offer custom-printed golf balls with World Cup-themed designs (a golf ball that looks like a soccer ball, country flags, and even “World Cup 2026” stamping). These make great gifts and souvenirs, especially for clubs located near participating stadiums.
  • Mini flags – Small country flags are inexpensive, versatile, and do a lot of visual work. Use them on display tables, tucked into product arrangements, or even sell them as an add on at the register. They signal the World Cup spirit immediately and make the whole floor feel cohesive without a big investment.
  • Travel gear – With the World Cup in cities across North America, some of your customers may be attending matches. Lightweight travel bags, packable rain gear, and accessories they can take on the road make timely additions to your endcaps.

Check with your vendors ahead of time, as many major golf brands release limited-edition patriotic collections around major sporting events.

5. Host a “Golf + Watch Party” Event

Combine two things your customers already love: golf and big-game viewing. Try to plan at least one special event during the tournament, ideally around your nation’s knockout match or the final on July 19.

Event formats that work well for golf shops:

  • Morning Round, Afternoon Watch Party – Organize a group tee time at a local course in the morning, then invite everyone back towards the shop to watch the afternoon match together.
  • Simulator Scramble + Watch Party – Run a quick 9-hole simulator scramble in your hitting bays, then pivot to a match on the big screen. Charge a small entry fee that includes a drink ticket and a discount coupon.
  • World Cup Putting Challenge – Set up a fun putting competition with country-themed flags at each hole. Run it on a busy day, reward the winner with a gift card, keep it light and social, and see how your members and guests enjoy participating.

We recommend you promote these events 1–2 weeks in advance on social media, via email, and with in-store signage.

Make the Goal

As the 2026 FIFA World Cup approaches, golf shops have a unique opportunity to tap into something larger than sport itself: shared excitement, national pride, and community connection. Moments like this naturally bring people together, creating opportunities for clubs to transform everyday retail spaces into experiences members genuinely remember.

Whether through themed displays, match watch parties, globally inspired merchandising, or interactive in-shop activations, the goal is to create energy, conversation, and a sense of occasion that welcomes your guests. When retail spaces reflect the moments people are already excited about, engagement becomes far more natural.

So tee it up, because the World Cup is almost here!
